Pleasure Trawlers for Sale
Recreational trawlers are pleasure boats which resemble commercial trawlers. Most pleasure trawlers are equipped with tankage capacity for long term cruising.
Trawlers are likely to have a semi-displacement hull and a full keel. Most have a trawler-like mast and boom which are used to hold antennas and many times for lifting tackle. The older models usually boast a cruising speed of 7-9 knots depending on the boat length with a maximum speed of no more than 10-12 knots, whereas newer models – with larger engines and newer underbody designs can often attain 14-20+ knots.
Why are Trawlers so popular?
Trawlers are popular for long term cruising due to the range and the comfort they afford. Trawlers usually have at least one full stateroom and more often two or more, full galley arrangements, spacious living accommodations and one or two full head facilities with showers. Most also have enough storage for the typical long range cruiser. The trawler also makes an ideal live aboard boat for the same reasons.
Today’s Trawler Market
One usually thinks of Grand Banks first when the pleasure trawler comes to mind, but there are lots of trawlers on the market today. Most are built overseas, and built to the level of quality that the American buyers demand in a cruising boat. The demand for trawlers seems to be consistent over the years, but it now appears that in addition to people making a switch from sail to power, that many younger people and first time buyers are looking at trawlers to accommodate family cruising.
